Neuer Kammerchor Heidenheim at the Abteikirche Neresheim

Although it consists exclusively of pupils, the chamber choire is much more than just a school choir.

Last weekend, Tonmeister Julian Klapp and our intern Lennard Schubert recorded a concert of the Neuer Kammerchor of the Schiller-Gymansium Heidenheim. We witnessed an absolutely professional and musically very mature concert. The padres of Neresheim's Benedictine Order just for once openend the doors of their Abbey, although normally there are no concerts in it.

We even got a little insight into the monastery life because we had to interrupt our preparations and the final rehearsal for the monks' daily prayers in the Abbey which should not be disturbed. A special location for a special concert it was - and the Abbey filled with about 1000 spectators is surely not the daily routine aswell.

The Kammerchor under the direction of singer and music pedagogue Thomas Kammel sang both a cappella and pieces with piano accompaniment of the talented young pianist Sören Gieseler who commenced the concert with a organ improvisation. Between the choir parts, a young talent and his teacher performed improvisations on flute, saxophone and flugelhorn. The climax of the night was the 30-minute Sunrise Mass by Ola Gjeilo featured by an ensemble of six string players.

Parts of the concert will appear as a CD at our label Sacral.
