Sonatas for viola da gamba by Johann Sebastian Bach - performed on the bassoon!

The norwegian bassoonist Dag Jensen and his accompanist Knut Johannessen (harpsichord) recorded the Sonatas BWV 1027-1029.

Dag Jensen who is professor for bassoon at Munich has worked on numerous CD recordings in the past. This time he took up a new challenge: He played all three sonatas for viola da gamba in the original version by J. S. Bach on the bassoon. This is a truly remarkable and ambitious project since it has not been done by anyone before.

His duo partner Knut Johannessen who is also from Norway teaches as a professor in Oslo and is regarded a top-class harpsichordist. He also performs regularly with the violinist Anne-Sophie Mutter.

Our recording took place at the church of Bönnigheim near Ludwigsburg. The CD which was produced by our tonmeister Daniel Keinath will be released on Animato early in 2013.
